What was supposed to be a thrilling CEV Champions League quarterfinal turned into a disaster for Eczacıbaşı Dynavit. Numia Vero Volley Milano dominated from start to finish, securing a resounding 3-0 win (25-18, 25-23, 25-14) and leaving their Turkish rivals looking completely out of sorts.
Eczacıbaşı came into this match as one of Europe’s top teams, but on the court, they looked unrecognizable—disorganized, and lacking energy. Their attack was predictable, their defense full of holes, and their response to pressure almost nonexistent. Tijana Bošković (15 points) did what she could, but with minimal support, even she couldn’t turn things around. A brief fightback in the second set, where they managed to level at 22-22, was the only glimpse of resistance before they collapsed yet again.
On the other side, Milano was simply unstoppable. Paola Egonu (17 points) led the charge with power and precision, while Myriam Sylla and Anna Danesi (10 points each) added to the onslaught. Under the guidance of coach Stefano Lavarini, Milano executed their game plan to perfection—strong serves, a rock-solid block, and seamless teamwork, all of which Eczacıbaşı completely lacked.
With this dominant performance, Milano is now one step away from the semifinals. If Eczacıbaşı doesn’t wake up and completely transform their game in the return leg, their Champions League dreams will end in embarrassing fashion on home soil.
