
Megabox Group Vallefoglia capped off a remarkable European campaign by winning the 2026 CEV Challenge Cup Women title, defeating Panathinaikos Athens in straight sets on Wednesday night. The Italian side delivered a composed and dominant performance to claim their first-ever continental trophy in front of a packed crowd in Glyfada.
Vallefoglia entered the decisive second leg with momentum and quickly demonstrated their superiority. From the opening exchanges, the visitors applied consistent pressure through strong serving and disciplined blocking, taking the first set 25-20 while limiting Panathinaikos’ attacking rhythm.
The second set proved to be the turning point of the match. Panathinaikos made an impressive start, racing to an early 8-2 lead and extending their advantage to 11-3, fueled by aggressive serving and home support. However, Vallefoglia responded with resilience, gradually reducing the deficit before taking the lead late in the set. Despite the Greek side saving two set points, the Italian team held their nerve, sealing a hard-fought 27-25 win with a decisive block.
With a two-set advantage and momentum firmly on their side, Vallefoglia controlled the third set from the midpoint onward. After a balanced start, they pulled away decisively, closing the match 25-16 to secure the title in 89 minutes.
Erblira Bici led Vallefoglia with an outstanding 23-point performance, earning MVP honors. Loveth Omoruyi added 10 points and made key contributions during critical phases, while libero Chiara De Bortoli anchored the defense with an excellent reception display.
For Panathinaikos, Haylie Bennett and Monika Lampkowska each scored 13 points. Statistically, Vallefoglia held the edge with 44 attack points, nine blocks, and four aces, compared to Panathinaikos’ 40 attacks, five blocks, and three aces.
The result marks a historic milestone for Vallefoglia, completing a dream debut in European competition and establishing the Italian club among the rising forces in continental volleyball.
