Italian powerhouse achieved a double straight-set win over Finnish Hurrikaani Loimaa. Even without Filippo Lanza and libero Massimo Colaci, Trentino smashed Hurrikaani in the second leg, partially 25-18, 25-19, 25-19. Slovenian Tine Urnaut scored 15 points for the Trentino, who will play against another Finnish representative, VaLePa Sastamala, in the 8th Finals.
After beating Hypo Tirol Innsbruck 3-0 in the first leg at home, Italian LPR Piacenza went to Austria to win, at least, two more sets to secure next round, which they did, 3-1. Piacenza coach Alberto Giuliani decided to give a break to several players today, including Cuban Leonel Marshall and Hristo Zlatanov, but it did not reflect on the outcome because Simone Parodi stood out with 14 points.
What they started in the first leg on road in Israel (3-0), Turkish side Fenerbahçe İstanbul finished in the re-match at home with another 3-0 victory over Hapoel Mate-Asher Akko. Metin Toy topped Fenerbahçe’s scorers with 18 points.
In one of the most interesting duels of the second leg of the 16th Finals, Gazprom-Yugra Surgut from Russia managed to eliminate Greek Olympiacos Piraeus with a 3-1 win, after losing 3-2 in the first match and having 1-1 in sets in the second match.
