CL M: Another unfortunate defeat for PAOK, Friedrichshafen rising from the dead in Thessaloniki

PAOK-vs-Friedrichshafen

PAOK-vs-Friedrichshafen

The Greek titleholders PAOK had the win against VfB Friedrichshafen from Germany in Round 3 in their pocket but somehow managed to drop it. It was their second tie-breaker which they lost in the 2018 CEV Champions League, while they suffered a four-set defeat as well and now have a 0-3 record in Pool B.

On the other hand, Friedrichshafen players raised from the dead and did it in style by running over PAOK in the third, fourth and fifth set – 3-2 (17-25, 28-30, 25-14, 25-17, 15-9) to reach a perfect record in the tournament.

As soon as they improved their reception (finished with an impressive 71% positive reception), Vital Heynen’s side started to march toward triumph. The middle blocker Philipp Collin topped the German giants with 22 points (4 kill blocks).

The Bulgarian Nikolay Uchikov tallied 21 points for PAOK, while Panagiotis Pelekoudas contributed with 5 kill blocks.
