VNL W: Erdem dominates on net as Turkey downs Russia in the tie-break, Poland loses to Japan after having 2-0

The Turkey National Team redeemed for yesterday’s surprising defeat against the Dominican Republic in the 2021 FIVB Womens’ Volleyball Nations League.

Turkey achieved the win at the end of the third week of the 2021 Women’s VNL in the Rimini bubble (Italy). Prevailing in a thriller against Russia, who was returning twice in the game (trailed 0-1 and 1-2 in sets), the team coached by Giovanni Guidetti improved to 8-1 and redeemed for a surprising defeat against the Dominican Republic yesterday: 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-7). Ebrar Karakurt stood out in Turkey when it comes to scoring (25 points) and reception (81.3 % digs; 14/16), while Eda Erdem Dündar dominated on the net with as many as 8 blocks (out of the team’s 18).

Poland missed a huge chance to overpower Japan. The ladies commanded by Jacek Nawrocki lost to the Asian side (who is at 7-2) despite leading 2-0 in sets and 12-10 in the tie-break, and despite their teammate, Magdalena Stysiak, tallying 35 points. Sarina Koga scored 26 for Japan.
