FIVB Disciplinary Committee has found that Serbia National Team libero Sanja Djurdjević violated the regulations of the world volleyball governing body following a gesture made during the 2021 Women’s Volleyball Nations League match between her team and Thailand on June 1. Recall that she put up a blatantly racist gesture called ’Slant Eye’ which is found offensive by Asian people.

Djurdjević has received a two-match suspension and will serve it during the VNL 2021 matches of Serbia on June 8 and June 12 (against Belgium and Canada respectively). Serbian Federation (OSSRB), who issued a statement after an unpleasant scene to explain the action of its player, was also punished as it received a fine of CHF 20,000 (a bit more than USD 22,000).
