They outplayed the tournament hosts 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, delivering a disciplined performance.

Captain Michaela Mlejnková led the way with 18 points, including 17 kills and a block, while Monika Brancuská added 17 points and Helena Grozer chipped in with 10 points. Middle blocker Magdalena Jehlářová contributed eight points, and Ela Koulisiani finished with four.

China struggled to find consistent rhythm against the Czech pressure despite 18 points from opposite hitter Tang Xin and 10 from middle blocker Wang Aoqian.

The opening set remained close until the Czech side pulled away late behind contributions from Mlejnková and Brancuská. China briefly threatened in the second set after establishing an early lead, but the visitors responded with a strong run to take control and move within one set of victory.

The third set proved the most competitive, with long rallies and momentum swings throughout. However, the Czechs held their nerve in the closing stages before sealing the historic win when a Chinese attack landed out of bounds.

The result gives head coach Giannis Athanasopoulos’ squad a dream start to the tournament ahead of Thursday’s clash against Poland.
