VNL W: Belgium Defeated Serbia in Five-Set Thriller

Belgium closed the opening week of the Volleyball Nations League with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Serbia, overcoming a spirited comeback to secure an important win in Nanjing.

Belgium took control early, claiming the opening two sets as Serbia struggled with errors and consistency. The Serbian side responded impressively, however, finding its rhythm in the third and fourth sets to force a deciding tie-break.

The fifth set remained closely contested, with Serbia holding a narrow lead at 10-9 before Belgium surged ahead in the closing stages. The Belgians capitalized on crucial mistakes to seal the victory and hand Serbia its third defeat of the tournament.

Anja Zubic led Serbia with 20 points, while Branka Tica added 14. Belgium was powered by Pauline Martin’s 24 points and 18 from Britt Herbots.

Result: Belgium bt. Serbia 3-2 (25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12).
