VNL W: Italy Defeat China to Win Bronze

Italy claimed the bronze medal at the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League after beating hosts China 3-1 in Sunday’s third-place clash. The reigning world and Olympic champions won 25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-13, bouncing back less than 24 hours after their five-set semifinal defeat to Brazil.

Italy made a strong start and controlled the opening set, China responded in the second, led by Zhuang Yushan, to level the match.

The third set remained tight until Italy pulled clear in the closing stages, with Stella Nervini and Ekaterina Antropova playing key roles. The visitors then dominated the fourth set to complete the victory.

Antropova finished as the match’s top scorer with 26 points, including four aces and one block. Sarah Fahr added 13 points, while Nervini scored 11.

Italy held a 65-46 advantage in successful attacks and also led 8-4 in aces. China finished ahead 10-6 in blocks.

The result gave Italy their first VNL bronze medal, adding to the three golds already won in the competition.
