“Japan played much better today. I was happy we could win in straight sets. I was pleased to see the variety of offense we displayed in this victory. Japan confused us a bit with their block. We changed the formation as a result of this in the third set. The Japanese setter was very quick today. I was a bit worried my players might be tired from watching the World Cup (France-Switzerland) match on TV early this morning.”
Japan captain Yu Koshikawa:
“We had to deal with some injuries today. We wanted to start with Koga at setter but went with Nagano. Dekita did a good job. We want to take the good points aside from the result. I’m not worried about the number of mistakes. Strong teams make mistakes too. We want to try new things.”
