The reigning 1. Bundesliga Männer champions and also third seed Berlin Recycling Volleys failed to secure the playoff semifinal spot in their first attempt as they were defeated by No.6 SWD powervolleys Düren in the quarterfinal Game 2, on the road, by a 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13). The Chilean opposite hitter Sebastián Gevert helped Düren tie the series at 1-1 by scoring 20 points. American Benjamin Patch poured in 22 points for BR Volleys. The Russian setter Sergey Grankin set up five kill blocks out of team’s 13.
There is another series tie. The fifth seed United Volleys Frankfurt won a five-setter against No.4 SVG Lüneburg for which the Canadian Ryan Sclater made another huge display – 30 points. The Greek Andreas Fragkos top-scored for United Volleys with 23 points.
The top seed VfB Friedrichshafen made another straight-set win over No.8 Volleyball Bisons Bühl to go to the semis.
