According to the German volleyball portal Volleyball Insider, VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen has unexpectedly terminated the contracts of Luca Brirup and Lukas Salimi with immediate effect. The club stated that the decision was not based on sporting performance but rather on “differences in opinion regarding how the players should represent the club off the court.”

Both players were in their first season in the German Bundesliga—Salimi previously played for TuS Bocholt in the 2nd Bundesliga, while Brirup joined from the Münster Volleys. This is not the first contract termination by Bitterfeld-Wolfen this season, as Eden Ibrahimovic and Benjamin Carleton also left the club last year. Ibrahimovic has since joined Baden Volleys.

Salimi Responds to Contract Termination

Speaking to Volleyball Insider, Salimi revealed that a dispute with a local resident may have led to his dismissal. The issue arose when the resident accused him of touching their car while parking. After the resident reported the incident to the club, the management offered Salimi a contract termination without further investigation.

Luca Brirup has not yet commented on the situation.
