Georg Grozer has rejected reports suggesting he missed Germany’s EuroVolley 2026 squad because of concerns over his physical condition.
In an interview with Volleyball Insider, the 41-year-old opposite said an injury was the real reason behind his absence.
Grozer explained that he and head coach Massimo Botti had already agreed he would only take part in the tournament if he was physically ready. However, he strongly denied claims that Botti was dissatisfied with his fitness.
“I don’t know where these lies are coming from,” Grozer said, describing the reports as “nonsense.”
According to the veteran, the problem started during the warm-up before Germany’s final test match. He later revealed he is dealing with a pinched nerve and is currently undergoing treatment.
Despite the injury, Grozer believes he may still have been able to recover in time. “I think I could have made it. I would have liked to help the team,” he said. A late return has not been entirely ruled out, but it remains unlikely.
