GRE W: Panathinaikos Hold Off Panionios 3–2 in Women’s Volley League Classic

Panathinaikos A.O. stayed unbeaten in the Women’s Volley League, edging Panionios Betsson 3–2 in a gripping five-set match on Saturday.

The league leaders opened a two-set advantage before Panionios fought back to force a tie-break, turning the contest into one of the most competitive matches of the season. Panathinaikos regrouped in the deciding set and closed out the victory to record their 16th straight win in all competitions.

Hayley Bennett led the winners with 18 points, while Martina Samantan added 17 points and eight blocks, Monika Lampkowska (Fedusio) also added 17 points for the winners.

Panionios, who showed strong character after trailing 0–2, were powered by Polina Rakhimova’s match-high 31 points but came up just short at the finish.

The result kept Panathinaikos top of the standings with 35 points, two ahead of second-placed Olympiacos S.F.P..
