ITA M: Padova surpass Modena to stage enormous upset, Lube at 13-0, Perugia’s winning streak goes on

Kioene Padova (ninth-placed prior to the match) staged an enormous upset in Round 14 of the 2019/20 Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship regular season by defeating one of the major title favorites Leo Shoes Modena.

In Round 14 of the 2019/20 SuperLega Credem Banca regular season, Modena have fallen under the power of Padova’s service and block (11 apiece) and extraordinary Cuban Fernando Hernández (28 points): 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23). Japanese Yuki Ishikawa served 5 aces, while Marco Volpato made 5 kill blocks. American Matt Anderson underperformed (6 points and 23% attack, 5/22) for the losing side, for which Ivan Zaytsev scored 16 points. Modena remained third-placed in the charts (9-4; 28 points) but are now leveled with the fourth-placed Allianz Milano.

The leaders Cucine Lube Civitanova continued their unbeaten run (13-0), while the winning streak of the vice-leaders Sir Safety Conad Perugia prolonged to 11 games in all competitions (8 in the SuperLega). The last-placed Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora lost for the 7th time in a row.

The SuperLega will resume on January 15, 2020.
