The winner of the tournament taking place in Italy – Pool B – will join the 2012 European champions of Turkey and the hosts of the Czech Republic to compose the European contingent for that competition along with the teams finishing atop of the charts in the other qualifiers running these days (Pool A in Subotica, Serbia, Pool C in Samokov, Bulgaria, and Pool D in Ramenskoe, Russia).
The President of the local Organizing Committee Giorgio Tirel says: “We are very satisfied because some more venues were interested in hosting this tournament but we eventually got it. We have been working hard to bring an elite Volleyball tournament to this small town. For a city like Trieste – that will host next year the final round of the Women’s Volleyball World Championship – it is quite normal to welcome Volleyball events but in my opinion it is important to spread the sport across the region thereby helping its development at grassroots level. We have a sports hall with a capacity of 3,500 people here and this small town – which is present in the UNESCO World Heritage List since June 2011 – is absolutely charming and deserves to host such events. As we have invited people from the nearby regions as well as from Slovenia we hope to have many fans in attendance in the coming days”.
