It is Champions League time also in Busto Arsizio where last year’s bronze medallists Unendo Yamamay will play on Tuesday their first home match in Europe’s elite club competition taking on their countrywomen of Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO. It will be a remake from the semis of last year’s national league where BUSTO ARSIZIO lost to the group around head coach Marco Gaspari who last week opened their campaign in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League with a home victory over Turkey’s giant Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL.

Things have changed a lot since last spring and the teams have undergone major changes; this applies especially to Unendo Yamamay that nevertheless last week lost only at the tie-break to Azeryol BAKU. It is going to be a very difficult match for the players mentored by Carlo Parisi who will be missing Lonneke Sloetjes – still nursing a shoulder injury – and with Serena Ortolani back from maternity who played last weekend her first match after a long time and though improving is still not in her best shape. Therefore Parisi will most probably opt for the only 19-year old Marika Bianchini as his starting opposite for the game with CONEGLIANO

Last year Imoco made the final of the national league causing a real sensation and was close to seize the title before they lost to RebecchiNMeccanica PIACENZA. Their roster still includes the likes of Emiliya Nikolova, Raffaella Calloni, Jenny Barazza, Valentina Fiorin and Cristina Barcellini, but the club signed a few more excellent players for their CL debut, including libero Monica De Gennaro, Valentina Tirozzi and US American setter Carli Lloyd who previously played for Unendo Yamamay and chiefly contributed to the hat-trick BUSTO ARSIZIO sealed at the end of the 2011/2012 season where they won Italy’s national league and cup as well as the CEV Volleyball Cup.
