ITA W: Novara’s Narrow Victory Over Firenze, Vallefoglia won in Trento

Match between Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Il Bisonte Firenze opened the ninth round of the Italian Serie A1. Initially, Novara’s easy win in the first set did not hint at the dramatic match that would unfold. However, the second set brought a stunning display to the PalaIgor audience, ending in a remarkable 44-42 win for the home team. This set has now entered Serie A history as the third-highest scoring set ever, equaling another Novara match against Modena in 2001.

Il Bisonte Firenze, didn’t give up and managed to close the gap to 2-1. The match showcased exceptional performances from all outside hitters: Kraiduba scoring 19 points (15 in the second set), Alsmeier with 18, and Ishikawa contributing 16. Novara relied on their last ounces of energy to seal the match, thanks to Akimova’s 29 points, Danesi’s 19, and Bosetti’s and MVP Chirichella’s 15 points each.

In another match of the day, Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia secured three points against Itas Trentino, distancing themselves from the bottom of the standings. They clinched the first set 24-26, breaking down the resistance of coach Sinibaldi’s team, which then succumbed 0-3. MVP Gardini stood out with 18 points, followed by Mingardi’s 16, while Dehoog was the top scorer for Trentino.
