With just two days remaining until the 29th edition of the Del Monte Supercoppa SuperLega kicks off in Florence, the four competing teams are gearing up for the first major event of the volleyball season. The tournament, which will take place on September 21 and 22 at Palazzo Wanny, will also mark the opening of the 80th Serie A Championship.
The semifinals will see Sir Susa Vim Perugia facing off against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, followed by a clash between Itas Trentino and Vero Volley Monza for the second spot in the final.
Excitement from the Coaches and Captains
Ahead of the competition, the coaches and captains of the four teams shared their thoughts.
Sir Susa Vim Perugia’s coach expressed his excitement about the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the adrenaline and thrill that comes with the Supercoppa. He mentioned that while the event serves as a curtain-raiser for the season, it holds significant importance, and his team is ready to step up as key contenders from the start.
The team captain Simone Giannelli noted that the Supercoppa is a prestigious way to begin the season, highlighting that participation itself reflects the team’s strong performance last year. Facing Piacenza, a team known for its powerful roster, will serve as an excellent early test for Perugia.
On the other side, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza’s coach is enthusiastic about the season’s official launch. Though his team has undergone considerable changes and is still refining its form, he believes they have what it takes to make a strong showing against one of the toughest opponents, Perugia. Antoine Brizard echoed his coach’s sentiments, hoping for a different outcome than his previous experience in the Supercoppa and looking forward to the thrill of this high-level competition.
For Itas Trentino, their coach acknowledged the importance of reaching the Final Four, which they consider a testament to last season’s efforts. While they may not be in peak condition yet, the team is determined to perform at its best, facing a formidable opponent in Vero Volley Monza. Trentino’s captain Riccardo Sbertoli emphasized the need to stay focused on their own game, taking the opportunity to learn and grow as they kick off the new season.
Finally, Vero Volley Monza’s coach recognized the challenge of facing Trentino, a team that clinched the Champions League title last season. Despite not being at their physical peak, Monza is prepared to give their all in the semifinals.
