ITA M: Modena wins Emilia derby after five-set thriller, Piacenza edged in SuperLega

Valsa Group Modena came out on top in a dramatic all-Emilian derby, defeating Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza 3–2 in the opening match of the 18th round of the SuperLega Credem Banca regular season.

In front of a lively crowd at the PalaPanini, Modena twice coming back from a set down before dominating the decisive tie-break. The victory allows the hosts to move level with Piacenza in the standings, both now on 36 points, with Modena holding the edge thanks to one more win overall.

Piacenza started strongly, taking the first set 25–18 and later regaining the lead in the third (25–23), but Modena refused to let the match slip away. Contributions from Paul Buchegger and Luca Porro powered the home side through the fourth set and into a commanding 15–9 finish in the fifth.

Porro was named MVP after scoring 15 points, while Buchegger led Modena’s scoring with 18. For Piacenza, Alessandro Bovolenta was the standout performer with 20 points in a losing effort.
