Round 20 of the SuperLega Credem Banca regular season got underway on Saturday with two victories that could shape the playoff race. Vero Volley Monza delivered a commanding home win over Padova, while Modena edged Civitanova in a dramatic five-set battle.
Monza Take Control at Home
In front of their home crowd, Vero Volley Monza swept Sonepar Padova in straight sets, winning 3–0 (25–16, 25–22, 25–16). Italian opposite Diego Frascio led the charge with 19 points and earned MVP honors. Martin Atanasov also reached double figures with 12 points, helping Monza secure a valuable three points in the standings.
The victory strengthens Monza’s hold on eighth place and moves them closer to a coveted playoff berth. However, their position could still be influenced by Sunday’s match between Cisterna and Cuneo.
Modena Survive Civitanova Comeback
The most thrilling contest of the evening unfolded in Civitanova, where Valsa Group Modena defeated Cucine Lube Civitanova 3–2 (25–17, 25–22, 17–25, 18–25, 15–13).
Modena started strong, claiming the first two sets. But Civitanova responded with determination, leveling the match by winning sets three and four. The decisive fifth set went down to the wire, with Modena holding their nerve to close it out 15–13.
Uladzislau Davyskiba led the visitors with 16 points and was named MVP. For Civitanova, Alesandar Nikolov delivered 22 points, while Argentine opposite Pablo Kukartsev added 12 after coming off the bench mid-match.
With the win, Modena moves closer to third place in the standings, currently occupied by Trento, at least temporarily. Civitanova, meanwhile, climbs to 35 points and remains in sixth position.
