Paola Egonu spoken out about the growing strain of an overloaded volleyball schedule, warning that the current pace is becoming too much for players to handle. Speaking to Rai TV after Milan’s match against Savino Del Bene Scandicci, the Italian star said the season has been extremely demanding and suggested the calendar should be reconsidered.
Egonu said players love being on the court, but the constant run of matches eventually becomes too hard on the body. She also stressed that such a demanding rhythm can affect the overall quality of the game, not only for athletes but for spectators as well.
She argued that athletes should remain the priority and made it clear that more recovery time is needed if the sport wants to protect player wellbeing over the long term. Her comments add to the wider debate around the increasing number of club and international commitments in elite volleyball.
