ITA W: Chieri Steal the Spotlight on Serie A1 Opening Weekend

The 2026-27 LVF Serie A1 Fineco season opened with a packed round of action as Chieri and Novara survived five-set battles, while Conegliano, Vallefoglia, Bergamo and Talmassons all started with victories.

Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri delivered the biggest drama of the round, edging Savino Del Bene Scandicci 3-2. Scandicci twice moved ahead, but Chieri responded each time before taking control of the tie-break for a 15-11 finish. Sarah Van Aalen was named MVP, while Anna Németh scored 25 points and Stella Nervini added 22. Kiera Van Ryk led Scandicci with 25.

Novara also needed five sets, beating UYBA Busto Arsizio 3-2 after more than two hours of play. Leana Grozer powered Busto with 26 points, but Tatiana Tolok answered with 24 for Novara and played a decisive role in the closing stages.

Defending champions Conegliano made a far more comfortable start, sweeping Cuneo 3-0 at the Palaverde. Merit Adigwe and Zhu Ting scored 14 points apiece as the hosts won 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20.

Vallefoglia recovered from losing the opening set to defeat Omag Consolini Volley 1907 3-1. Alice Bolzonetti led the winners with 20 points, while Ekaterina Kochurina and Sonia Candi provided a strong presence at the net.

Bergamo also collected all three points with a 3-1 victory over Macerata. Elena Pietrini scored 18 for the hosts, while Macerata’s Clara Decortes finished as the match’s leading scorer with 22.

Talmassons produced one of the most convincing performances of the weekend, defeating fellow promoted side Brescia 3-0. Giorgia Frosini starred with 20 points as Talmassons dominated at the net with 14 blocks and added six aces.

Milano had already opened the new campaign with a straight-sets victory over Firenze, led by a 27-point performance from Paola Egonu.
