Gian Luca Pasini from gazzetta.it writes that the Italian Volleyball Federation will name Gianlorenzo Blengini as the new head coach of the national team!

Who is Gianlorenzo Blengini?

Interesting enough, this 44-year old Italian started his coaching career as assistant of Mauro Berruto, the former head coach of Italy! Two of them worked in Turin in 2000/01 season, while then they moved together to Piacenza and worked there from 2001 to 2003. Then Berruto left the Reds, while Blengini stayed for one more season and then went to Modena to join the coaching staff of Julio Velasco. He remained in the Yellow City from 2004 to 2006, while then he followed Velasco to Montichiari and stayed in this club until 2009.

Finally, it was time for Blengini to show what he has learned. His first job as the head coach was in Lupi Pallavolo Santa Croce where he managed to achieve two respectful results in the second season (2010/11) – to win the Serie A2 Cup and to reach the final of the promotion playoffs. In 2011 Blengini went to the big league by accepting the offer from Vibo Valentia. With his guidance from 2011 to 2014, Vibo Valentia became a worthy opponent to any major club from the Serie A. Then came the offer from Latina

Blengini led Latina to the Serie A semi-finals in the last season, eliminating the reigning champion Lube along the way! Lube immediately expressed desire to hire young coach and Blengini accepted the proposal after the end of the season.

Now, it seems that he will also receive another job offer, the greatest honor for any coach – To become the head coach of his national team.

What do you think, is Blengini the right choice of the Italian Volleyball Federation? Leave your vote in our WoV Poll.
