The President of the Italian Volleyball Federation (Fipav) Bruno Cattaneo has a conciliatory attitude toward Ivan Zaytsev, the Men’s national team superstar, who has been expelled from the squad before the 2017 EuroVolley.

“The doors have always been opened for him. This is demonstrated by the fact that there have been no disqualifications or fines on him. The doors are open to anyone who respects the rules. If this occurs, we will be happy to have him back because he is an important player,” the head of Fipav commented for “La Gazzetta dello Sport” on the return of Zaytsev to the Italian Men’s NT after the “Footwear case”.

what will happen if he doesn’t? FIFAV needs to be honest with themselves. They lack quality in almost every position. Just because they won a silver medal in a meaningless champions cup doesn’t mean they are close to winning the world championship.

Italy is paying a price for bringing too many foreign players and giving citizenship to foreign players at the expense of local ones. Very shallow and short-term politics that will destroy Italian NT in long term.
