JPN W: Kariya Shocks Saga in Turbulent SV.League Weekend

Queenseis Kariya delivered the biggest surprise of the weekend in Japan’s women’s SV.League, sweeping second-place Saga Hisamitsu Springs as multiple upsets reshaped the standings during the 13th leg of competition.

Queenseis Kariya rebounded from a five-set loss on Saturday to dominate Saga Hisamitsu Springs 3–0 on Sunday. American opposite Danielle Cuttino led the way with 26 points as Kariya climbed to eighth in the table. Saga remained second despite the loss.

Several visiting teams enjoyed successful weekends. Aranmare Yamagata collected six points on the road against Toray Arrows Shiga, moving out of last place and pushing Toray to the bottom of the standings.

PFU BlueCats Ishikawa Kahoku swept both matches away to Victorina Himeji, overtaking their hosts into fourth place. Denso Airybees Koriyama also earned two wins, upsetting Gunma Green Wings to move up the table.

On another road trip, Saitama Ageo Medics secured back-to-back victories over Astemo Rivale Ibaraki, including a five-set comeback win on Saturday, to rise to sixth place.

League leaders NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki avoided an upset despite being taken to five sets in one match against Kurobe Aqua Fairies, while defending champions Osaka Marvelous earned two wins over Okayama Seagulls to remain third overall.
