No.3 JT Thunders opened Final 3 of the V.Premier League, which is held in the city of Kumamoto, with a semifinal win against No.2 Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza to gain a 1-0 in the series – 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23). In case they win Game 2 as well, the Thunders will progress to the finals. If Trefuerza prevail in the next game (regardless of the result in sets), the Golden Set will decide on the finalists. Panasonic Panthers earned an automatic berth to the gold medal series as the regular season winners.

Shohei Yamamoto topped Thunders with 15 points. Their best scorer this season, Thomas Edgar, played only the first two sets. It is unknown if this was the coach’s decision or the Australian opposite sustained an injury. The Croatian Igor Omrčen scored 34 points for Trefuerza.
