The United States survived a spirited Canadian comeback to claim the 2026 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship, winning a five-set thriller at the Avenir Centre.
The Americans prevailed 3-2 after taking the opening two sets and then watching Canada force a decider. The U.S. eventually closed out the final 15-13 in the fifth.
Already qualified for the 2027 Men’s World Volleyball Cup, the United States was led by Matt Anderson and Jake Hanes, who scored 18 points apiece. Anderson recorded 17 kills and an ace, while Hanes contributed 15 kills, two blocks and an ace.
The United States held a 64-55 advantage in kills, with its depth proving important during the closing stages of the match.
Earlier, Cuba secured the bronze medal with a straight-sets victory over the Dominican Republic.
Cuba won 25-22, 25-19, 26-24, overcoming a late Dominican challenge in the third set. The Dominican Republic saved four match points after trailing 24-20 before Cuba finally completed the sweep.
Robertlandy Simón, Miguel Lopez and Marlon Yant scored 11 points each for Cuba. Hector Cruz led the Dominican Republic with a match-high 15 points, including five blocks.
The bronze-medal result also secured Cuba a berth at the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland.
