The top seed Club Voleibol Teruel (regular season 20-2, 59 points) swept the series of the Superliga Masculina 2018-19 playoff finals with the No.2 seed Unicaja Almería by a 3-0.
In the third and, as it turned out, the last match of the series, Teruel defeated Almería on the road in straight sets, just like in previous two encounters, partially 25-23, 25-23, 25-19, to defend the title.
It is noteworthy to mention that Almería had to play the playoff finals without three important links due to injuries: the captain Jorge Almansa (MVP of the 2019 Spanish Cup), setter Víctor Viciana and outside hitter Francisco Ruiz “Fran Ruiz”.
Montenegrin Balša Radunović top-scored for Teruel in Game 3 with 15 points (3 kill blocks) and 71% attack (12/17, blocked twice), while Venezuelan Thomas Ereú made 85% positive reception (13 digs, 1 error, 23% excellent). Borja Ruiz scored 15 points (4 kill blocks) for Almería.
Teruel opposite hitter Andrés Villena was named MVP of the Finals in which his team earned the seventh overall Spanish title to tie with Son Amar Palma (shut down in 1991) and Real Madrid (shut down in 1983) at the second place of the eternal titleholder’s list. Almería are still record holders with 11 Superliga trophies.
Superliga Masculina 2018-19 playoff finals – Game 3:
(2) Unicaja Almería – (1) Club Voleibol Teruel 0-3 (23-25, 23-25, 19-25), series 0-3
