Veteran players Áurea Cruz and Karina Ocasio announced retiring from the national team after the defeat to the Dominican Republic in the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier in a deciding match for going to the Tokyo Olympics. Also, the head coach José Mieles handed his resignation at the conclusion of the same game due to family reasons.

This was not the first time that Cruz and Ocasio have retired from international volleyball. Both did it after the 2016 Rio Olympics but later returned to the national team actions.
