JPN M: Suntory stun Thunders in quarterfinal, will play Stings in semis

The Suntory Sunbirds overcame one more obstacle in the playoffs of the 2019/20 Japanese Men’s Volleyball Championship.



The fourth seed Suntory Sunbirds (55 points, 18-9) started playoffs of the 2019/20 V.League Division 1 Men from the very beginning (the 1/8 final) in which they were favorites. However, in the single-game quarterfinal, they were underdogs but managed to eliminate third-seed JT Thunders Hiroshima (62 points, 21-6) and will play in the semifinal: 3-1 (24-26, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14).

The Russian Dmitriy Muserskiy was on a high level for the winning side, notching 30 points of which 6 came from the block. Australian Thomas Edgar scored 19 points for the Thunders.

Suntory will face the second seed JTEKT Stings who secured an automatic berth in the semifinal, in the next stage.
