The Japanese government has decided to allow foreign players, that were hired by the country’s volleyball and basketball clubs but couldn’t come until now due to the coronavirus, to enter Japan. The athletes from overseas in these two sports got the clearance now because the Japanese government wants to strengthen its national teams for the Tokyo Olympics.

Both championships, the V.League for men’s and women’s volleyball, and the B.League for men’s basketball will start in October. It’s stressed that, considering the importance of the Tokyo event, the aim is to raise the competition level with the participation of foreign players. In the V.Leagues, teams can have a maximum of one foreign player from outside Asia.

As for the club competition in other sports, such as the top football league J-League and baseball league Nippon Professional Baseball, the Japanese authorities also allowed clubs to use foreign players but only those who were in the country before the government banned the entry of foreign athletes.
