U.S. Virgin-Islands – team
The winners will play against El Salvador on Sunday evening for the top place at the Second Round Group K and a better seeding in next year’s round of tournaments.
Danielle Selkridge led U.S. Virgin Islands with 18 points, including six blocks and five aces, while Valissa Brathwaite added 13.
“We are looking forward the rematch against El Salvador,” U.S. Virgin Islands Sacha Gumbs proclaimed. “Trust me the communication will be there and we will be there mentally prepared. I know they have a good team but we will come twice as hot and ready for tonight.”
British Virgin Islands’ captain Sabinah Clement was satisfied with the overall performance of her team as they are working on the development of a young group of talented players.
“We have bright talent but it is not ready,” she said. “I am pleased. Today we used a wing-spiker as a setter and she did a good job against the team whom I consider the best here.”
The home team coach Lucille Hobson said her team played the way they were supposed to do one day earlier when lost to El Salvador in four sets.
“They must come back with their A game tonight,” Hobson said. “They have to play hard.”
The defeated coach Willis Potter said to be satisfied with his team’s performance and is confident about what he can foresee in the future.
“We made some strides during the tournament,” Potter said. “I think the future is bright and there is a lot of promising players.”
