In a thrilling second match of the Slovenian Women’s Volleyball Championship playoff finals, OTP Banka Branik Maribor bounced back to level the series at 1-1 against Calcit Volley. After losing the first match 0:3, Maribor fought hard at home to secure a dramatic 3:2 victory.
Despite a shaky start and losing the second and third sets heavily (9:25, 16:25), Maribor’s resilience shone through. Iza Mlakar led the scoring with an outstanding 31 points, while Nika Milošič added 7 blocks. Calcit’s Mika Grbavica was equally impressive, scoring 30 points.
The decisive fifth set, or “tie-break”, saw Maribor take an early 5:0 lead. Though Calcit fought back, the hosts held their nerve, clinching the win in a nail-biting finish. This marks Maribor’s fourth win over their rivals this season as they chase their 17th national title. The third game in this best-of-five series will be held in Kamnik on April 23.
