Venezuela men’s national team captain Willner Rivas has been reported missing after a powerful earthquake struck the country, officials said.
The Venezuelan Volleyball Federation confirmed Rivas is among those unaccounted for following the disaster. Local reports said he was with his family when the earthquake hit.
Rescue crews continue searching through collapsed buildings as the death toll rises and thousands remain missing.
Spanish club Guaguas Las Palmas, which recently signed Rivas for the upcoming season, said it has received no information about the player or his family.
Rivas has previously played for Police SC in Qatar, Lausanne UC in Switzerland, Narbonne Volley in France and Cisterna Volley in Italy.
