Hall in Tehran
Crazy game in Tehran! Iran was on a four-win streak before the big clash against Poland, and the home fans filled the Hall to the very last seat. They made so much noise that at one point two main referees could not understand each other! But, first thing first – Iran has beaten Poland after a tie-break and remained in the race for the World League Final-Six!
The peak of this fantastic clash was the tie-break. Iran was in the lead almost throughout the whole set, but when the home team scored for 11:9, some strange things started to occur on the court… Stephane Antiga, head coach of Poland, started arguing with the second referee as he thought that the point should have gone to Poland.
They talked for more than a minute, while then the second referee went to have a word with the main one in the chair… But the home fans made so much noise so that conversation was almost impossible! The second referee then once again went to talk with Antiga, then with the game commissioner…
This delay obviously made home players very nervous so Saeid Marouf literally approached to the second referee and told him several times to get back to his place so that the game could continue!!!
When it finally happened, Iran won the next two points for 13:9, and then Mojtaba Mirzajanpour scored two more for 15:11 and for big win of Iran!
Pool B: USA 7-2 (20 points), Poland 6-3 (17 points), Iran 5-4 (15 points), Russia 0-9 (2 points).
