In Pool A Brazil overplayed Japan in four sets, Gabi and Fe Garay were the best scorers with 16 points each, while Miyu Nagaoka scored 15 and Haruyo Shimamura 14 points for Japan.
In Pool B China, who is also the host of this Pool was stronger than Dominican Republic. They finished their match in straight sets. Chinese Ruoqi Hui scored 13 points while Erasma Moreno Martinez 10 for Dominican.
In the first match of Pool C, USA defeated Italy after long four sets. Kelsey Robinson scored 16 points and Kimberly Hill 14 for the winning team, while Indre Sorokaite 17 and Lucia Bosetti 13 for Italy.
