WCH U18 W: Debutants scored first victories in Peru

Defending champions China and vice champions United States won their respective matches as both sides debuted at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Saturday.

China defeated  Serbia 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23) in Pool B while USA dominated the Dominican Republic in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) in Pool C.

Also debutantes, Chinese Taipei in Pool A and Brazil in Pool D also collected victories with the Asian side needing five sets to subdue South Korea 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 12-25, 15-13) and the South American squadoutplayed Japan 3-0 (25-19, 33-31, 28-26).

Hosts Peru improved to a 2-0 win-loss record with a five-set win over Mexico (22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 15-11) while Belgium  also remained undefeated in two outings after a 3-0 (29-27, 25-22, 25-20) success against Argentina.

In the other matches on Saturday, Poland edged Thailand 3-2 (25-21, 26-28, 25-10, 22-25, 15-13) in Pool B and Turkey defeated Cuba 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-14).
