Brazilians demolished Japan in semifinals 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) with 15 points from receiver/outside hitter Lana Conceição. Nanami Hirose scored 13 in the losing team.
The second semifinal battle was between the Dominican Republic and Italy. The Central Americans won a true tie-break thriller 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-7) with astonishing performance from outside hitter Brayelin Martínez, who scored 27 points. Paola Egonu had 21 in Italy.
Dominicans have never won the gold medal at the World Champs in this age category.
