In the midst of Men’s World Cup in Japan, one tournament entered into finish. It was the tournament that launched several players which will mark the next decade of world’s volleyball – Women’s U20 World Championship in Puerto Rico.

Martínez, Lorenne & Milenković

Martínez, Lorenne & Milenković

First of these players is the MVP of the competition and the best scorer Brayelin Martínez from gold medalist Dominican Republic who collected 177 points in total (22.1 per game). But, her stunning perfomances in semifinals and finals, when she scored 27 and 32 points, were something to remember. In these games the outside hitter showed one segment of play that is very important for senior volleyball – guts to step out when it’s the most important!

Secondly, there is Bojana Milenković from Serbia, being announced as the second best outside hitter at the World Championship. Despite the fact that her national team didn’t win a medal (finished 5th), the organizers recognized her leadership on the court as well as her consistency in all matches – that’s something that willl be appreciated in senior volleyball a lot.

And finally, the Brazillian opposite Lorenne Geraldo. She was the third best scorer (152 points in 8 matches) and the best spiker (45.6%) which are both segments so important for someone on her position in order to play proffesionally on a high level.

Of course, we will not forget the others that found their place in the dream team of the tournament that looks like this:

First Outside Hitter: Brayelin Martínez (DOM); Second Outside Hitter: Bojana Milenković (SRB); First Middle Blocker: Maja Aleksić (SRB); Second Middle Blocker: Anna Danesi (ITA); Opposite Hitter: Lorenne Geraldo (BRA); Setter: Misaki Shirai (JPN); Libero: Zhana Todorova (BUL).
