SACH W: Brazil effortlessly to first victory, Argentina and hosts also superior

Tenfold consecutive champions of South America, the national team of Brazil, superiorly started the 31st edition of a continental tournament, as well as another favorites, Argentina.

As expected, the Brazilian team began South American Championship in Cartagena (Colombia) with a comfortable win over Uruguay 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-15). The outside hitter/receiver Gabi was the top scorer of Brazil with 12 points.

Brazil will face Chileans in the second round of Pool B, while they will play against arch-rivals Argentina in the final game of the qualifying round.

Argentine team beat Chile by the same result 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-12), being superior in attack (33-19), blocking (11-6) and serving (11-2), as it was reported by Argentine Volleyball Federation. Carla Castiglione led the scoring list of the winning team with 16 points.

Peru hardly overpowered Venezuela 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15, 15-6), while the hosts, Colombia, were superior against Paraguay in straight sets 25-8, 25-12, 25-10, in 58 minutes. According to Colombian media, their national team was led in the attack by the duo – Dayana Segovia and Amanda Coneo.
