One of the hosts, Italy, probably had the easiest job in the opening round. They defeated Estonia in Pool B clash in Turin with 25-19, 26-24, 25-15 after having troubles only in Set 2 in which Estonia took early two-point lead and kept it until the very finish when Ivan Zaytsev broke their defense.

Zaytsev was the most efficient player in the winning team with 19 points, followed by Filippo Lanza with 14. In Estonia, Oliver Venno had 13.

Russia didn’t outplay their opponents that easy as Finland showed tough resistance in every set, especially in the third, when they came close to equalize in the finish with series of aces 25-20, 25-19, 25-23.

It was Pool D match in Busto Arsizio (Italy) in which Maxim Mikhailov scored 21 and Dmitriy Muserskiy 14 points. Olli-Pekka Ojansivu had 26 in Finland.
