The win continued the hosts’ trend of steady improvement, having been taken to five sets in the first match and four in the second. Middle blocker Faluke Akinradewo and outside hitter Logan Tom led all scorers with 13 points apiece while opposite Destinee Hooker finished with eight.
“It was really great to play Bulgaria in these three matches”, said US coach Hugh McCutcheon. “They are a physical team and well coached. I am happy that every time we played them we got a little better each time and peaking toward the Olympic Games.”
McCutcheon’s squad leaves tomorrow for the Olympic Games in London, where they have been drawn in Group B with Olympic champions Brazil as well as China, Serbia, Turkey and Korea.
