OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS M: Argentina and Venezuela fight for Rio spot in last round

Argentina and Venezuela added one more victory each on the second day of the tournament held in Venezuelan city of La Guaira.

Argentina faced Chile after premiere victory versus Colombia (3-0) and the players led by head coach Julio Velasco won again 3-0, with partial 25-22, 25-17, 25-19.

Argentina took win thanks to better effectiveness of attack (57%). Ezequiel Palacios has 14 points in the winning team.

In the closing match of Day 2, the hosts Venezuela defeated Colombia and remained undefeated. Thanks to Kervin Piñerua’s 20 points, Venezuelans beat their rivals in two hours and 11 minutes 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 31-29) and will face Argentina today, in the decisive game for the Olympic spot.

Brazil, as the hosts of Summer Olympics, have their guaranteed participation, while the loser of Argentina – Venezuela clash will go to additional qualifications in January (World Tournament), in Japan.
