ROAD TO RIO W: Semifinalists in Africa confirmed, final round to determine pool leaders (VIDEO)

Algeria, Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon secured semifinal spot at the Women’s African Olympic Qualifier in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

In Round 2 of Pool B, Algeria took over Uganda 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-12) in the match lasting 67 minutes scoring second win and leaving their opponents at 0-2. The winning team only struggled in Set 1 when its head coach sent substitutes to the court. When he returned starting line-up afterwards, Algeria easily established dominance.

Egypt set second win at the tournament, against Botswana 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-17) to clinch the second ticket of Pool B to semifinals, while Botswana dropped to 0-2. Mariam Metwally led Egyptian scorers with 12 points. The Egyptian team had advantage in blocking 11/1 and in serving 6/1 to control the victory.

Mutual clash of Algeria and Egypt in Round 3, today, will determine the pool leaders.

As for Pool A which consists of three teams, Kenya leads after straight-set win over Tunisia since on Friday, Cameroon beat Tunisia only after tie-break. Mercy Moim led the Kenyan scorers with 9 points.

Today’s clash between Kenya and the hosts will determine pool leaders.
