In semi-finals of African Olympic Qualifier in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Egypt prevail heavy favorites Kenya 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 16-15, 25-20, 19-17) after two hours and seven minutes to qualify for the gold medal match.
Egyptian opposite hitter Aya El Shami played the greatest role in the victory of her team by scoring 34 points. Mercy Moim led the Kenyan scorers with 19 points.
On the delight of home fans, Cameroon beat Algeria 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-17) to secure the final match of Qualifiers where they will face Egypt.
Cameroon had a complete domination over the match by establishing a great advantage in blocking (7-1). Cameroonian opposite hitter Nana Tchoudjang, as usual, played a crucial role in the victory of the hosts. She led Cameroon’s scorers with 12 points.
Recall that the winners of the tournament will book a direct ticket to Rio, while the second and third will go to the World Olympic Qualifications.
