EMIR CUP: Leal and Zaytsev in finals, Simón helps El Jaish tie series vs. Al Rayyan

The 21-time gold medalists and defending champions Al Arabi SC Doha secured their 27th appearance in the finals of a prestigious tournament organized by Qatar Volleyball Association – Emir Cup.

Qatar’s title holders eliminated Police SC Doha 2-0 in semifinal series by clinching Game 2 in straight sets, partially 25-20, 25-17, 25-20. Al Arabi have won the opening match in three sets as well.

For Al Arabi, the Cuban Yoandy Leal and Ibrahim Mohamed were the most efficient, collecting 12 points each. Italian Ivan Zaytsev added 10. The Cuban-born Italian Williams Padura Diaz had 13 points in Police.

Al Arabi still wait to know their opponents in the finals, to be played on May 13.

In the other semifinals, El Jaish SC tied against Al Rayyan SC after prevailing in a five-setter 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8). The first match was also finished with a tie-break.

The Cuban Robertlandy Simón topped El Jaish’s scorers with 37 points. His compatriot Oreol Camejo tallied 17. Another Cuban, Wilfredo León (23 pts.), and Slovenian Tine Urnaut (18) were main contributors for Al Rayyan.
