Thailand’s dream of a first ever Olympic Games for its women’s volleyball team is a step closer after a convincing 3-1 (26-24, 26-28, 25-16, 25-20) win over the Dominican Republic.
The difference in size was stark; Thailand’s average height is just 175cms, while the Dominican Republic has an average height of 184cms. The Thai opposite, Malika Kanthong, is 177cms tall, while Dominica’s Brayelin Martinez a towering 201cms.
On the other side The Netherlands was without mercy against Kazakhstan. During the match they were dominated in each element of play and only in the second set the opponents were better. The result in the fourth set (25-8) shows difference in the quality of these opponents.
Lonneke Slöetjes was the best scorer of the match with 30 points.
