Host Nicaragua found their rhythm from the beginning earning their first match of the tournament while Antigua & Barbuda suffered their second loss in their first NORCECA tournament. Nicaragua will face Costa Rica to define the first place in Pool A.

Florelisa Smith was the top scorer for Nicaragua with 12 points. Antigua’s Natasha Best finished with 5 points.

Nicaragua’s captain Florelisa Smith was happy with the win. “We’ll prepare better for tomorrow’s match, today we were a little bit confident in the third set, but in general, my team did well today.”

For Antigua & Barbuda, Shawn-Marie Dinard commented: “I know we can do better but we couldn’t control our nerves.”

Winning Coach Claudia Noguera said: “In this category it’s normal to see players nervous and anxious, we are looking forward to face Costa Rica tomorrow and we’ll have a better performance for sure.”

Rosely Lewis was surprised that the girls couldn’t play as they usually do. “Some of the players are injured which is strange because at home they were doing perfectly well.”
