“Zbornaya” took revenge on Serbia for the loss in a pools stage (both teams entered knockout phase with 4-1 record) and beat them in the final match 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-18). Anna Kotikova topped Russia’s scorers with 12 points. Katarina Lazović had 17 in Serbia.
It was the first gold medal for Russia Women’s U19 National Team after 12 years, 15 overall. Thus, this generation of Russian players grabbed a second title in two years since they have also been the best last year at the U18 European Championship in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Turkey took bronze medal by defeating Belgium in straight sets, partially 26-24, 25-15, 25-20, to complete the podium. Tutku Burcu Yüzgenç scored 18 points for the winning team. Manon Stragier collected 13 for the “Yellow Tigers”.
